Glimpse This Fashion Designer’s Collection for Farrow & Ball

Christopher John Rogers is known for expressive clothing alive with color, pattern, and joy. But the celebrated Brooklyn-based, Louisiana-born fashion designer’s latest endeavor marks a sea change: Carte Blanche, a capsule collection of paints and wallpapers for U.K.’s Farrow & Ball, is for the home. In the latter category is a wide statement Stripe that can be hung in four different orientations, a Bauhaus-inspired mixed-scale Check that pays homage to Anni Albers, and the graduated and textured Dot, a riff on the flatbed printing method and one of Rogers’s best-known motifs. A dozen paint shades round out the collection, from deep black Liquorice to Hog Plum, a greenish yellow reminiscent of the sweet and sour fruit found across the southern U.S.

Heather Chontos Showcases 12 New Paintings in Solo Show

Needing a change of scenery in the early days of the pandemic, expressionist painter Heather Chontos decamped from New York to the countryside of southwestern France, the pastoral inspiration leading to prolific output. First to debut is her Toile du Peintre pattern, which has been produced by Pierre Frey in a cotton-blend upholstery for a limited-edition series of the Togo, Michel Ducaroy’s iconic chair for French furniture company Ligne Roset that’s celebrating its 50th anniversary. “Heather’s intense colors and dynamic patterns push the boundaries, aligning with our value of nonconformism,” says Simone Vingerhoets-Ziesmann, executive vice president of Ligne Roset in the Americas. Soon after, the artist returned to the U.S. for the first time to open “A Time of Sand,” her solo show of 12 new large-scale paintings, including Cold Morning Air, at New York’s Voltz Clarke Gallery (where the Sight Unseen Collection was simultaneously on display during NYCxDesign). The Chontos show goes through July 7.

An eight-color paint palette dreamed up by interiors impresario Kelly Wearstler marks British maker Farrow & Ball’s first collaboration with an outside designer in its 75-year history. Dubbed the California collection, the series of water-based low-VOC paints is available in all standard Farrow & Ball finishes. The richly pigmented offerings have the diffuse, atmospheric quality of colors viewed in the clear, bright SoCal light. Consider Citrona, an earthy chartreuse inspired by lemon trees; Palm, a desaturated green that’s a paean to the titular tree; Salt, a crisp white conjuring Pacific Ocean air; Hazy, a muted blue-gray the color of a foggy morn; and Stoke, the exact gray of a cloudy coastal day. “Color is the spirit of a room,” Wearstler says. How quintessentially Cali.
